From the time I was 5 years old, I've had a fascination with trains. Many summers were spent listening to steam headed freights thundering through the night just across the road from my grandfathers home near Truro, Nova Scotia. Now 50 years later that fascination has turned into my main hobby. Although I live in Ottawa, Ontario it was those trips by rail to Nova Scotia that triggered most of my memories of steam on the rails. Once I decided to take up the hobby of model railroading, I had to come up with a location and decide whether it would be a freelanced or a prototype layout. That was something that ate at me for months. I finally decided to make the scene elements prototypical but include a freelanced railway in the mix. Thus was born the Atlantic Coastal Maritime Eastern railway or A.C.M.E. for short. This blog will record my journey as the A.C.M.E. railway comes to life in my basement. I will also be including other entries related to local railway activity. All aboard!
